Stingrays Weekly: Stingrays Visit Trenton and Wheeling this Week

The South Carolina Stingrays battled the Gwinnet Gladiators, Greenville Road Warriors and Florida Everblades this week for a week record of 1-2-0-0.

The Stingrays kicked off a three-game in three-day weekend on Friday at The Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Georgia against the Gladiators. Stingrays forward Chris Langkow scored a shorthanded goal and an even-strength tally 34 seconds apart, but the Gladiators slipped by 3-2.

On Saturday, the Stingrays moved to the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville, South Carolina and fell to the Road Warriors 2-1. Langkow netted his second shorthanded goal of the season 25 seconds into the third period.

The weekend wrapped up with the Everblades visiting the North Charleston Coliseum Sunday afternoon. Forwards Robby Dee and Lankow along with defenseman Luka Vidmar provided the scoring and goaltender Jeff Jakaitis made 26 saves to defeat the Everblades 3-2.

Taking the Lead

The Stingrays are fourth in the South Division with 36 points and 10 overall in the Eastern Conference.

Goaltender Ryan Zapolski is first in the ECHL with a 1.72 goals-against average, a .936 save percentage and tied for first with three shutouts.

Defenseman Tommy Cross, currently with the Providence Burins of the American Hockey League, is tied for 18th among ECHL rookies with 17 points (six goals, 11 assists).

Defenseman Art Bidlevskii is fifth among ECHL rookies with seven major penalties.
