Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, today announced that goaltender Philipp Grubauer and defenseman Brett Flemming have been recalled from the Royals by the Capitals and re-assigned to the Bears.
This marks the second time that Grubauer has been recalled from Reading and re-assigned to Hershey. In his lone appearance so far in the AHL, Grubauer made twenty-four saves in a 2-1 overtime loss for the Bears against the Binghamton Senators on October 21, 2012. A second year pro from Rosenheim, Germany, Grubauer has compiled a record of 19-5-1-0 in twenty-six appearances this season for the Royals. Grubauer, who was recently selected as the starting goaltender for the ECHL All-Stars in the upcoming All-Star Game in Loveland, Colorado, (Wednesday, January 23), has recorded four more wins than any other goaltender in the league. He has the fifth best goals against average in the league at 2.30 and a .912 save percentage. Grubauer, who has held the opposition to two goals or less fourteen times this season-including yesterday's 3-2 win over the Wheeling Nailers, was unbeaten in nine starts in December (8-0-1-0, 2.32, .917). Earlier this season, he set a team record when he became the first goaltender in Royals' history to win ten consecutive games (11/02 - 11/28/12). A fourth round pick of the Washington Capitals in 2010, Grubauer has won forty-two total games in the ECHL over the past two seasons. He has twice been selected as the ECHL Goaltender of the Month (November of 2011 and November 2012).
This represents the fourth time that Flemming, a second year pro who was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, has been recalled from Reading and reassigned to the Bears. A fifth round pick of the Capitals in 2009, Flemming has played in one game with Hershey without registering any points or penalty minutes. In thirty-two games with the Royals this season, he has recorded ten points (2g-8a) and fifty-six penalty minutes.
The Royals kick off a four game road trip in Kalamazoo, Michigan on Wednesday, January 9. The puck will drop on the opening face-off in the game between Royals and K-Wings at Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo at 7:00 pm. The game night broadcast will kick off on CBS Sports Radio 1240 am and 98.5 fm at 6:30 pm with the Pre-Game Warm-Up Show presented by Steve Moyer Subaru. Wednesday's game, as with all Royals road games this year, will be televised locally in Berks County on BCTV on Royals TV presented by Boscov's Travel and Apple Vacations. Royals multi-game flex plans for the Royals 2012-13 season presented by Steve Moyer Subaru are currently available. Get more at www.royalshockey.com.
