Toledo Walleye News Release
Walleye Notes
- Looking Back to the Week that Was! Toledo ended 2012 with a Monday night win 9-4 in Fort Wayne. The Walleye scored four goals in the third period to pull away from the Komets. Friday night, Toledo relied on its defense to post a 2-0 win in Kalamazoo. Toledo was out shot for the first time in nine games that night. On Saturday, Toledo out shot Orlando 42-21, but fell 4-3 in a shootout. The shootout got Toledo again on Sunday, as Kalamazoo Wings goaltender Joel Martin stopped all five Toledo shooters in a 2-1 loss.
- 9 for a New Record! The nine goals by the Walleye Monday in Fort Wayne set a new single game record in goals scored for the Toledo Walleye. The previous high was 8 reached four different times. The All-Time Toledo ECHL record for goals scored in a single game is 12 last reached on February 16, 1994 vs. Huntsville.
- Halting a Team! Goaltender Jordan Pearce put the brakes on against Kalamazoo Friday night in a 2-0 win. Jordan turned aside all 35 shots he faced from the Wings to collect his second shutout of the season. It was his 7th in his professional career, and the 5th he has had in Toledo. That is the best for a Walleye goaltender and moves him into a tie with Nick Vitucci and Logan Koopmans for the second most shutouts in Toledo ECHL history. Former Storm goaltender David Goverde has the record with 6 that he posted while backstopping Toledo from 1995-97.
- Gametime! Toledo has just one opponent to worry about and that is the defending Kelly Cup Champions the Florida Everblades. The longest trip of the year mileage wise takes the Walleye to Estero, Florida for games Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Toledo has won the lone game played so far between the two teams 4-2 on December 16th in Toledo. The Walleye have travelled twice before to southern Florida and have an All-Time record of 1-4-1 at Florida.
Walleye Player of the Week: Terry Broadhurst (2 goals - 4 assists 6 points)
Walleye Goaltender of the Week: Jordan Pearce (2-0-1, 1.62 gaa, .944 save %)
