Recap of Last Week

The Road Warriors played two home games last weekend against South Division rivals, the Florida Everblades and South Carolina Stingrays. Friday's matchup against Florida began smoothly for Greenville. Through two periods the Road Warriors were in the driver's seat with a 3-1 lead. Jason Wilson scored his first goal of the year to bring the game to a 4-1 score four minutes into the third period. Florida began a five-goal third period, which was the most goals scored against the Road Warriors in any period this year. Florida's final goal was scored on an empty netter to secure the 6-4 victory for the Everblades.

Saturday turned out much better for the Road Warriors as they welcomed in the Stingrays. Greenville brought a 2-0 lead into the third period. 25 seconds into the third frame the Stingrays made it interesting with a shorthanded goal. Greenville was able to hold onto the lead this time and fend off the Stingrays final attacks with a pulled goalie. The 2-1 victory was Nathan Lieuwen's 11th win of the season.

All-Star Announcement

On Thursday the Greenville Road Warriors announced rookie defenseman Mike Marcou will be representing the Road Warriors in the 25th ECHL All-Star game hosted by the Colorado Eagles on Wednesday, January 23rd. For full story click here.

Week Ahead

The Road Warriors have a brief week of games ahead of them with a two game series against the Orlando Solar Bears on Friday and Saturday nights. Both games begin at 7 p.m. Greenville has played only two games against the Solar Bears this year with both games needed extra time to decide the victor. The games were played in succession with off days in between. The first game was played in Orlando on October 28th. The Road Warriors scored three goals in the third period to force a shootout victory and a 6-5 win. The Solar Bears gave the Road Warriors a taste of their own medicine the next game. Orlando scored two goals in the third period to force an overtime victory with a 4-3 win. There have been seven powerplay goals scored in the two games between Orlando and Greenville.

Hockey Happy begins on Friday at 5 p.m. with free food, discounted drinks and entertainment presented by Bubba Annie's, ROCK 101 and ABC Party Rentals. THE ROAD WARRIORS WILL BE ACCEPTING NEW CLOTHES, BLANKETS AND CANNED FOOD AT THE ENTRANCES TO DONATE TO THE VICTIMS OF HURRICANE SANDY. Fans who donate will receive a ticket voucher to the game on February 7, 2013 at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the first 1,000 kids 12 and under receive a white replica jersey presented by Scene on 7 and WSSL 100.5. Tickets to the games start as low as $9 and are available at the BI-LO Center or online at Ticketmaster.com!

Streaks and Stats

-Brandon Wong is second in the Eastern Conference with 17 goals.

-All-Star Mike Marcou is third among rookies with a +14.

-Andrew Yogan is second in the league with a shooting percentage of 29%.

-The Road Warriors are 9-1-1 when leading after the first period.

-The Road Warriors are 12-4-1 when scoring first.

-The Road Warriors are 12-2-2 when having less penalty minutes than the opposition.

Transactions

The Road Warriors traded Francis Verreault and Kyle Haines to Bakersfield for Levi Nelson on Monday. For full story click here.
