South Carolina Stingrays News Release
The Week That Was...
The South Carolina Stingrays finished a perfect month of February, tied a team record with their 13 consecutive victory and set the longest winning streak in the ECHL this season with wins against the Orlando Solar Bears and Florida Everblades last week for a week record of 3-0-0-0 and improved their overall record to 31-18-1-6.
The Stingrays traveled to the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida to open a three-game in three-day Florida road trip. Stingrays forward Tim Spencer opened the scoring late in the second period, but the Solar Bears responded early in the third. Forward Brandon Wong, who made his Stingrays debut that night, buried the game-winning tally 1:16 into overtime to improve the Stingrays' record to 5-2-1-1 against the Solar Bears.
Wong shined the following night against the Everblades at Germain Arena in Estero, Florida netting a goal and two assists in a 5-3 victory, snapping a six-game losing streak against the Everblades. Forward Andrew Rowe added two assists.
The road trip closed Saturday evening against the Everblades. Goaltender Jeff Jakaitis earned his seventh win in a row and the Stingrays tied a team record set back in 2009-10 with their 13 consecutive win taking down the Everblades 4-3. Trailing 3-1 midway through the third period, the Stingrays marched back for three-consecutive tallies including the game-winning goal with 1:27 to play.
Chasing History
With the 13 straight win Saturday, the Stingrays tied a team record for the longest winning streak set from November 24-December 19, 2009. The Stingrays are also on an eight-game road winning streak, two away from tying the team record of 10 set from November 2-December 9, 2000. The Stingrays can break the overall winning streak record this Friday at the North Charleston Coliseum as they welcome the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7:05 pm.
