READING, PA - March 1, 2015 - The Jackals stormed out early and dominated the first period, but faltered late and fell 3-1 at Santander Arena.
The pesky pack pounced on the Royals early, producing 20 shots on goal in the first frame. The Jackals lead the shot advantage, 14-0, until the 10:09 mark when Reading recorded its first shot on goal. Despite the Jackals dominance in the opening stanza, they would find the back of the net just once due to the stellar goaltending of Royals' netmidner Connor Knapp. Steven Shamanski broke the ice at 14:12 of the first period with a 5-on-3 power-play blast from the right point. Kevin Sundher and Zach Tolkinen assisted Shamanski's 12th goal of the season. The rookie blueliner's sixth power-play goal of the season tied him for a Jackals' single-season record among defensemen, which was set by Mario Larocque (2011-12) and Eric Regan (2010-11).
The second period was more evenly played and the Jackals held their 1-0 lead until a late scrum in front of their net resulted in a penalty shot attempt for the Royals. Cam Reid would take the penalty shot for the Royals and score his team-leading 22nd goal of the season. The game went into the second intermission tied 1-1.
The Royals would quickly capitalize in the third period with Sean Wiles' 18th goal of the season just 1:24 into the frame. Andrew Johnston and Brett Flemming assisted his go-ahead-goal. Then, at 5:04 of the final regulation period, Adam Hughesman tapped in a backdoor feed from Olivier Labelle for his 19th goal of the season. Cam Reid also assisted Hughesman's tally.
Travis Fullerton turned aside 27 of 30 shots faced, but was handed the loss. Connor Knapp stopped 34 of 35 shots faced and earned the win. The Jackals went 1-for-4 on the power-play and Reading went 0-for-3 on the man advantage.
