Stingrays win streak reaches 13
March 2, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL) News Release
South Carolina picked up three wins on the road last week, defeating Orlando 2-1 in overtime on Thursday before picking up a pair of wins at Florida - 5-3 on Friday and 4-3 on Saturday - extending its winning streak to a club-record tying 13 games.
The Stingrays' 13-game winning streak is the longest in the ECHL since the 2009-10 season when South Carolina also won 13 straight. It is tied for the fifth longest streak in the ECHL's 27-year history.
South Carolina's streak began with a 7-1 win at Greenville on Feb. 7 and has seen the team post eight of the 13 wins on the road. The Stingrays have outscored their opponents 57-23 during the streak and they have allowed two goals or less in 10 of the 13 games during the streak.
The Stingrays look to move into a tie for the third-longest winning streak in ECHL history on Friday when they host Gwinnett. South Carolina then hits the road to take on the Gladiators on Saturday and Greenville on Sunday.

Allen's Costello nears century mark
Chad Costello of the Allen Americans picked up seven points (3g-4a) in three games last week, extending his lead in the ECHL scoring race to 30 points. Costello has 92 points (29g-63a) in 54 games this season and is within eight points of becoming the first player in the league to reach the 100-point mark since 2009-10 when three players had 100 points - Elmira's Tyler Donati led the league that season with 114 points (38g-76a), his brother Justin Donati finished second wtih 104 points (42g-62a) and Utah's Ryan Kinasewich was third with 103 points (48g-55a).
Costello's 63 assists also lead the league, and are the most since the Donati brothers in 2009-10.
Chill Factor now available for purchase
The city of Columbus, Ohio was a college football town that had always struggled to support professional sports franchises. It was a town where Ohio State UniÃ-versity reigned supreme, and everything else seemed less important - a town of jaded fans, where almost all other minor league franchises had failed. That was until 1991, when the Columbus Chill, a minor-league hockey team, arrived. Using an in-your-face marketing campaign and on-ice shenanigans, the Chill became the talk of the city and gained a religious local fan base. Based in part on the success of the Chill from 1991-99, the city of Columbus was awarded an NHL expansion franchise in June 1997, less than six years after the Chill was announced.
Chill Factor is the story of a minor-league hockey team whose off-the-wall marketing and keen vision allowed it to achieve dreams never before thought possible.
The book is now available for purchase through Amazon and will be available in retailers on Tuesday.
