South Carolina Stingrays News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays picked up a total of three points from a three-game series in Norfolk last week. The Rays earned one point in a shootout loss Wednesday evening before a 6-3 win on Friday and a 5-2 loss Saturday night. Forward Kelly Zajac continued to lead the team offensively, scoring seven points (two goals, five assists) in the three games and has a current point streak of four games. Derek DeBlois also played a major role, scoring points in each game (three goals, one assist), including two power play goals Saturday night.
South Carolina is now back in North Charleston for the coming week, hosting the Greenville Swamp Rabbits on Tuesday and the Norfolk Admirals on Friday before taking a few days off for a holiday break. Both games this week are scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m.

(Norfolk Scope - Norfolk, VA)
The South Carolina Stingrays earned one point in the standings Wednesday night, falling to the Norfolk Admirals in a shootout 4-3 at the Norfolk Scope. Adam Carlson starred in net for the Stingrays in the defeat, making a total of 43 saves. South Carolina goals were scored by forwards Derek DeBlois, Kelly Zajac and Dylan Margonari.
FRIDAY: SOUTH CAROLINA STINGRAYS 6, NORFOLK ADMIRALS 3
(Norfolk Scope - Norfolk, VA)
Behind goals from six different skaters, the South Carolina Stingrays defeated the Norfolk Admirals by a final score of 6-3 on Friday night at Norfolk Scope Arena. Forward Kelly Zajac led the way with a goal and three assists, while defenseman Max Nicastro scored his first goal as a Stingray and also added two assists. Other multi-point efforts came from forward Joe Devin (one goal, one assist) and defenseman Steve Weinstein (one goal, one assist). Parker Milner made 26 saves to earn his ninth win of the season in between the pipes for the Stingrays.
SATURDAY: NORFOLK ADMIRALS 5, SOUTH CAROLINA STINGRAYS 2
(Norfolk Scope - Norfolk, VA)
The Norfolk Admirals scored three power play goals and got a hat trick from defenseman Mikael Tam in a 5-2 defeat of the South Carolina Stingrays at the Norfolk Scope on Saturday night. Derek DeBlois scored both goals for South Carolina in the loss, netting each tally on the power play in the second period. South Carolina goaltender Adam Carlson finished the contest with 25 saves.

ZAJAC LEADING THE WAY
Stingrays forward Kelly Zajac is leading the team in scoring through 24 games with 27 points on seven goals and 20 assists. The team's top center had three straight multi-point games before Saturday's loss in Norfolk after being reunited with linemates Joe Devin and Derek DeBlois. On Friday night, the Winnipeg, Man. native had a goal and three assists while posting a +3 rating in a 6-3 win. Zajac has been on the scoresheet in each of his last four games, scoring 10 points (three goals, seven assists).
QUICK START FOR DEBLOIS
Derek DeBlois has continued to light up the scoreboard since returning from injury on Dec. 10. The forward now has eight points (five goals, three assists) in just four games with the Stingrays this season. The Warwick, R.I. native scored the team's only two goals in Saturday's loss to Norfolk, with each tally coming on the power play. DeBlois also scored in Wednesday's game to open the scoring and picked up an assist on Kelly Zajac's goal in Friday's contest.
NICASTRO NETS FIRST TALLY
South Carolina defenseman Max Nicastro scored his first goal of the season in Friday's 6-3 win at Norfolk, using a one-timer to beat Admirals' goaltender Brandon Anderson just 50 seconds into the second period. The defenseman wasn't done after the goal, as Nicastro had two assists in the third period on goals by Joe Devin and Rob Flick. The Thousand Oaks, Calif. native also finished the game with a +3 rating and now has nine points (one goal, eight assists) in 13 games with the Stingrays during the 2016-17 season. Currently, Nicastro is on a four-game point streak with six points (one goal, five assists) in his last four contests.
MCPARLAND STANDING OUT AS A ROOKIE
First-year forward Steven McParland is towards the top of the league in scoring among rookies this season. Through 22 games McParland has 19 points (six goals, 13 assists), which is ninth best among all ECHL first-year skaters. The league's Rookie of the Month for November, McParland has also amassed a +4 rating and 60 shots on net with one short-handed goal.
