This past week, the Royals went on the team's only trip of the regular season to Greenville, South Carolina, where Reading dropped a pair of one-goal decisions to the Greenville Swamp Rabbits, 1-2 on Friday and 4-5 on Saturday.
Friday's 2-1 loss to Greenville snapped the Royals' season-long eight game win streak and nine game unbeaten streak.
Friday's loss also snapped a three-game road winning streak and four game unbeaten streak away from Santander Arena in Reading.
The back-to-back losses on the road this past week pushed the Royals record back to four games over .500 (14-10-1-1=30), and served to drop Reading into fourth place in the North Division of the ECHL's Eastern Conference.
The two losses this past week to the Swamp Rabbits, who are in the South Division, dropped the Royals record back to 4-4-0-0 against teams from the South with twelve more games to go against teams from that division (two against Greenville, one against the South Carolina Stingrays and nine against the Norfolk Admirals).
This week, Reading plays a pair of games against the Adirondack Thunder and one against the Manchester Monarchs, both of whom are in the North Division.
The Royals are 4-5-1-0 against teams from the North with thirty-one games to go against teams within the division: eleven against Adirondack, three against Brampton, eight against Elmira, five against Manchester, and four against Wheeling.
Overall, Reading has compiled a record of 8-9-1-0 against teams from the Eastern Conference.
Reading scored first in both of the two losses this past weekend. Reading is now 7-4-1-0 when scoring first.
The Royals held a lead in both of the losses sustained this week (and, depending on how you count it, held as many as six different leads in Friday's 5-4 loss). Reading has now sustained seven "blown-lead" losses this season.
Friday's 5-4 loss marked the first time this year that the Royals led after one period (2-1) and lost in regulation (6-1-1-0).
Friday's loss was also the only the second time this year that Reading has lost in regulation when entering the third period tied with the opposition (4-4). Reading has compiled a 4-2-0-1 record when tied after two periods.
Both losses this past week were decided by one goal. The Royals have compiled a 5-4-1-1 record in one-goal games this year.
The 2-1 loss to Greenville last Thursday marked the sixth time this season (0-6-0-0) that Reading has been held to just one goal.
The 5-4 loss to the Swamp Rabbits on Friday marked eighth time this year that Reading has scored four goals in a game (5-3-0-0) and the fourteenth time the team has scored four or more (10-4-0-0).
Overall, Reading has scored a total of ninety goals, which translates into a 3.46 goals per game average (tenth).
Friday's 5-4 loss marked the first time in span of ten games that the Royals have allowed more than two goals against.
Reading has given up five or more goals against six times this year (0-6-0-0).
Overall, the Royals have allowed a total 81 goals against in twenty-six games played, which translates into a 3.12 team goals against average (fifteenth in the league).
The Royals snapped a span of two games without a power play goal, when Robbie Czarnik notched the first goal of the game on Friday while the Royals were playing with the man advantage.
Reading's PP has scored at least one goal in seven of the team's last ten games (8 - 31) (25.8%).
Reading's penalty killers have blanked the opposition in five straight games-and in nine of the last twelve played.
Over the last 13 games, the Royals' PK has killed off 35 of the last 38 PP chances for the opposition (92.1% kill ratio).
Ryan Penny picked up a pair of assists in Friday's 5-4 loss in Greenville to record his third multi-point performance of the season. Penny has nine points (2g-7a) in his last ten games.
Robbie Czarnik recorded his first multi-point performance of the season (1g-1a) on Friday.
In that game, Czanik scored the game's first goal while the Royals were playing with the man advantage. That was Czarnik's sixth goal of the year-three of which have come on the power play (second on the team only to Olivier Labelle, who has six). That goal marked the second time this year that Czarnik has scored the game's first goal.
Defenseman Florian Iberer, who leads all d-men on the Royals with fifteen points (4g-11a), picked up an assist on the Royals' third goal (by Matt Willows) 5:43 into the second period on Friday.
Iberer's fifteen points places him tied fourteenth in scoring amongst defensemen in the ECHL.
Matt Willows scored his second goal in four games with Reading (2g-1a) 5:43 into the second period to give Reading a 3-1 lead in Friday's loss.
Justin Crandall, who is riding a six game point streak (2g-5a=7pts), scored the Royals' lone goal in Thursday's 2-1 loss and registered an assist on Reading's first goal (by Robbie Czarnik) in Friday's 5-4 loss.
For Crandall, who has eleven points (4g-7a) in his last ten games, his goal on Thursday marked the second time this year that he has scored the game's first goal.
Matt Wilkins, who has six points (2g-4a) in his last seven games, picked up the primary assist on the first goal of the game (by Robbie Czarnik) in Friday's 5-4 loss. That was Wilkins' first power play point as a pro.
Ian Watters registered his first multi-point performance of the year (1g-1a) on Friday. That night, Watters scored the Royals' fourth goal (to give the team a 4-3 lead) 16:16 into the second period and picked up an assist on Reading's second goal (by Tyrell Goulbourne).
On Friday, Watters played his 155th game as a Royal (13-42=55pts, 184 pims), which is eighth most all-time.
Tyrell Goulbourne registered his first multi-point game as a Royal on Friday (1g-1a). That night, he scored the team's second goal seventeen seconds after the Royals had opened the scoring with Robbie Czarnik's power play goal. He also picked up the primary assist on Reading's fourth goal (by Ian Watters) in that game.
Defenseman Derik Johnson, who has played plus-11 (+11) in his last ten games, leads the Royals in plus-minus at plus-10 (+10) through twenty-six games.
Todd Perry, who picked up the lone assist on Reading's only goal in Thursday's 2-1 loss, played in his 150th game as a Royal (tenth most all-time) on Friday (7g-34a=41pts, 203 pims).
Friday's 2-1 loss snapped the seven game win streak (and eight game unbeaten streak) for goaltender Mark Dekanich, who has compiled a record of 10-8-1-1 through twenty games this season with the Royals. His 2.88 goals against average is seventeenth best in the league. His 1168 minutes are second most in the league. His 567 saves are third most..
