Tulsa Oilers News Release

INDEPENDENCE, MO - The Tulsa Oilers cashed in on two 5-on-3 power plays and were perfect on the penalty kill in a 3-2 win Monday over the Missouri Mavericks at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.

Tulsa jumped on Missouri early, outshooting the Mavericks 15-7 in the opening frame and scoring two goals late in the frame to snap out of a scoring drought. Emerson Clark scored both goals for the Oilers, the first on a rebound that bounced into the slot. Clark scored his second goal on a 5-on-3 power play, when he fired in a one-timer from the right circle to give Tulsa a 2-0 lead after one.

Missouri cut the Oilers' lead in half 46 seconds into the second period, when Dane Fox jammed a loose puck past Tulsa goaltender Jamie Phillips at the edge of the crease. The Oilers held a 24-17 shots advantage and a 2-1 lead at the second intermission.

The Oilers picked up an insurance goal on another 5-on-3 power play, when Garrett Ladd fired a shot from high in the slot past Missouri goalie Josh Robinson to make it 3-1. Ladd assisted on both of Clark's goals to earn his first career three-point game. The Mavericks closed the gap in desperation time, when Kyle Schempp deflected a shot past Phillips, but the Oilers hung on to win their second straight road contest.

Phillips picked up his league-leading 16th win, stopping 27 shots in the victory. Tulsa was 2-for-8 on the power play and a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.

The Oilers return home on Tuesday to host the Allen Americans at 7:05pm at the BOK Center in Tulsa. It's $1 Beer Night, as there will be designated concession stands on the concourse serving beer for just $1. Tulsa then wraps up the week before Christmas with a Friday night tilt in Moline, IL against the Quad City Mallards at the iWireless Center.
