Previewing This Week

Monday, Dec. 19 vs. Tulsa - 7:05 p.m. | Home vs. TUL (1-0-1), Away vs. TUL (1-1-0)

The Mavericks host Tulsa for the third of five meetings between the teams at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena on Monday. Missouri has taken three of a possible four points from Tulsa at home after taking the Oilers to overtime on December 10 before falling in a shootout. These teams have played tight games nearly every time they have met, and three of the prior four contests have been decided by two goals or fewer. The lone "comfortable" victory was Missouri's 10-3 triumph on November 5. In addition to the tight finishes, leads have rarely been safe in the season series. In three of the first four games the team that has scored first has eventually lost its lead.

Friday, Dec. 23 at Wichita - 7:05 p.m. | Home vs. WIC (0-0-0), Away vs. WIC (0-2-0)

Game Three of the "Visit Wichita, Visit Independence" Cup will be the Mavericks' final contest before they hit the Christmas break. Wichita has won each of the first two games; the first by rallying after the Mavericks opened the scoring on October 21 and the second by holding off a Mavericks rally to win 4-3 December 11. The Thunder enter play this week with a 4-3-0 mark in December after dropping back-to-back decisions to the Allen Americans on December 16 and 18. The Mavericks will get their first crack at the Thunder on home ice on January 6 and 7.

Recapping Last Week

Fri., Dec. 16 vs. Alaska: SOW 4-3

The Mavericks never led Friday's game against Alaska until Kyle Schempp's shootout-winning goal hit the net in the bottom of the fifth in the shootout. Three times the Mavericks rallied from a goal down with Darren Nowick's two goals leading the charge. Full Recap >>>

Sat., Dec. 17 vs. Alaska: SOL 1-2

Kyle Schempp staked the Mavericks to a 1-0 lead 6:33 into the contest with his fourth goal of the season. The lead held up through the first and second periods, but Alaska's Tim Coffman tied it early in the third. A scoreless overtime sent the teams to a shootout for the second straight game and Alaska won it two goals to none. Full Recap >>>

Mavs Moments

- Defenseman Gus Young was recalled from his loan to the Mavericks and then traded by the Chicago Wolves to the San Antonio Rampage. Chicago had loaned Young to the Mavericks twice this season - from October 15 to October 25 and from November 29 until December 18. Young had three points (1g, 2a) in 13 games with the Mavericks.

- Missouri has been a tough team to score against in its last five home games. Dating back to a 5-3 win over Allen on November 15, the Mavericks have a team goals-against average of 2.25 and have gone 13-for-15 (87 percent) on the penalty kill. The Mavericks have a 2-2-1 record over that stretch.

- The Mavericks have had three consecutive home games go to the shootout, and they are 1-2 in those breakaway contests. Two of those three shootouts have gone past the standard best-of-three rounds into sudden death.

- Radoslav Illo picked up his 13th point of the season with an assist against Alaska on December 16. It took him just 21 games to reach 13 points which equaled his total as a rookie from the 2015-16 season and he reached the mark in 16 fewer games.
