Rapid City Rush News Release
RAPID CITY, SD- The Rapid City Rush, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Arizona Coyotes, announced today that rookie defenseman Dysin Mayo and rookie forward Mark Cooper have been re-assigned to the Rapid City Rush. In an additional transaction, forward Brenden Walker has been traded to the Norfolk Admirals in exchange for future considerations.
Mayo gets re-assigned after appearing in a lone contest with Tucson last weekend. That now brings his season total with the Roadrunners to four games, in which he has recorded a lone assist. When he was last with the Rush, the rookie blue-liner registered 3 assists in his last two games against the Utah Grizzlies and the Idaho Steelheads, marking his first points in a Rush uniform, and now gives him 5 career assists between the Rush, the Roadrunners, and the former Springfield Falcons in the AHL. Prior to playing professionally, the 6'0", 180-pound Victoria, British Columbia native skated in 248 games over four seasons with the Edmonton Oil Kings of the WHL, where he recorded 28 goals, 106 assists, and 134 points. With the Oil Kings, he won the 2014 WHL Championship and Memorial Cup Championship, and was drafted by the Arizona Coyotes in the 2014 NHL Draft (5th Rd-#133).
Cooper comes back to the Rush after playing in four games with Tucson in the AHL, but did not register any points. At the time of his recall, the 6'2", 190-pound rookie played in 14 games with the Rush, and registered his first 6 professional points to the tune of a goal and 5 assists, along with a +1 rating. Before turning pro, Cooper recently completed his collegiate hockey career with Bowling Green University, where he suited up in 157 games across four seasons, registering 45 goals and 46 assists for 91 points, as well as a +20 rating. In his senior season, Cooper was named to both the WCHA's All-Academic and Third All-Star Teams. After his collegiate career ended, the Toronto, Ontario native skated in 2 games with the AHL's Chicago Wolves.
