Stingrays' Streak Ends with 5-1 Loss to Everblades

North Charleston, SC -The South Carolina Stingrays (21-15-1-1) fell to the Florida Everblades (22-18-0-2) 5-1 in front of 3,940 at the North Charleston Coliseum Friday night. The loss ends a seven-game unbeaten streak and six-game winning streak for the Stingrays.

The Everblades grabbed the opening goal of the contest 12:43 into the first period when forward Matt Beca forced a shot under the right leg of Stingrays goaltender Todd Ford. Defenseman David Fischer and forward Mike McKenzie earned assists. Stingrays forward Pierre-Luc O'Brien tied the contest at 16:50 snapping a shot over the right shoulder of Everblades netminder Bobby Goepfert. Forward Jordan Pietrus and defenseman Josh Godfrey assisted on O'Brien's 10 goal of the season.

Florida lit the lamp four times in the second period to complete the game scoring. Forward Mathieu Roy broke the 1-1 tie on the power play at 3:16 from forward Francis Lemieux and defenseman Mike Egener. A minute later, defenseman David Larman found the twine from Egener and forward Tony Mosey at 4:16. Egener made it 4-1 on the power play at 12:26 from Beca and forward Ross Carlson. Mosey rounded out the scoring with an unassisted marker at 15:23.

Stingrays goalie Jared DeMichiel stood between the pipes to start the third period and stopped all five Everblades chances in the final frame.

Ford suffered the loss stopping 16 of 21 Everblades shots. Goepfert grabbed his 14 win of the season knocking aside 31 of 32 Stingrays opportunites. The Everblades finished the night 2-for-9 on the power play while the Stingrays went 0-for-4.
