West Valley City, Utah - The Stockton Thunder (16-11-2-4) added a late empty-net goal to beat the Utah Grizzlies (22-12-3-1) 4-2 Friday night at Maverik Center.

"It was just a very vanilla game. As a group and as a team, I'm not very happy with the result," said Grizzlies Head Coach Kevin Colley. "It's unacceptable, but we have to get our feet back in the fire and get going."

The Thunder took a 1-0 lead with 2:28 left in the first period and held it until Tyler Ruegsegger (7) tied it for Utah on a power-play goal 6:10 into the second period. Tom May and Matt Clarke picked up assists on the play.

The 1-1 tie stood for 5:37 until Stockton took the lead back on a power-play goal by Garet Hunt. The Thunder made it 3-1 with an insurance goal early in the third.

David Schulz held in a clearing attempt halfway through the third period and Tim Crowder centered Kevin Deeth for his eighth goal of the season. Utah though was unable to add anything else as five-on-five play continued through regulation.

The game featured five fights, including three in the final five seconds.

Utah continues their home stand with Stockton Saturday and Monday. Face-off all three nights is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
