Atlanta Gladiators News Release
GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Gwinnett Gladiators battled back from a third period deficit with four unanswered goals, stunning the Greenville Road Warriors 8-6 Friday night at the BI-LO Center for their fifth win in a row.
Trailing 6-4 after two periods of play the Gladiators (19-17-5) comeback started 9:21 into the third. Pat Galivan capped a hat trick on an assist from Andy Brandt to make it 6-5. Galivan had snapped a 20-game scoreless streak earlier in the night.
Tom Zanoski's fourth goal of the season at 13:52 on the powerplay with an assist to Drew Paris tied the game, and Gwinnett wasn't finished. With 3:53 to go in the third Dan Kissel hammered home a rebound on a bad angle shot from John-Scott Dickson to give the Gladiators a 7-6 edge.
Tim Miller tacked on an empty-netter from Mike Forney at 18:23 to cap the highest scoring game of the season for the Glads.
Galivan had a hat trick to go with an assist, while Tim Miller had a goal and three assists on the night. The Gladiators are now just seven points back of Greenville (24-11-2) for first in the South Division.
Both teams combined for six goals in the first period, with Gwinnett tallying the first two. Tom Zanoski's third of the season just 1:07 into the game made it 1-0 Gwinnett with assists to Andy Brandt and Drew Paris.
Pat Galivan then snapped a 20-game scoreless drought 1:10 later opening up a 2-0 Glads lead. Galivan's fourth was set up nicely by Matt Duffy and Tim Miller. Duffy was making his debut on the blueline with the Gladiators after spending time with the Kalamazoo Wings earlier this season.
Brandon Wong's first of the night at 5:18 cut the lead to 2-1, but Gwinnett answered right back. Galivan struck again on the powerplay, again being set up by Tim Miller and Sam Roberts at 7:27 in the first.
The Road Warriors battled back however, as Wong's second at 7:53 and defenseman Brad Cole's first goal of the year with just :53 to go in the first drew Greenville even at 3-3 after 20 minutes.
Pat Galivan set Mike Forney up in the slot for a pretty one-timer goal to put the Gladiators ahead just 2:17 into the second, but Greenville took over from there on out scoring the next three goals.
Chris McKelvie tied the game at 10:25, Wong picked up the hat trick to give Greenville their first lead at 14:54, and Connor Shields' tenth at 16:33 gave the Warriors a 6-4 lead at the end of two periods of play.
The Gladiators came back in the third for the second game in a row, and are now 2-14-4 when trailing after two periods of play this season. Edward Pasquale started the game for Gwinnett, surrendering all six Greenville goals before being relieved by Chris Carrozzi to start the third.
Gwinnett went 2-for-5 on the powerplay and held Greeville to 0-for-3.
The Glads are back in action Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Florida Everblades for Teddy Bear Toss night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
