South Carolina Stingrays News Release

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC South Carolina Stingrays Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons announced his final roster today. The first year Head Coach currently has 20 players under contract for the upcoming season. Of the 20 players, four are ECHL rookies and four are ECHL veterans. Seven of the players on this year's team are new to the Stingrays organization.

"I think this team has a whole new personality compared to teams that we have had here in the past," said Fitzsimmons. "We have definitely been successful getting some fresh young talent on to this team. Now its time to go out and get started!"

Brett Marietti, who has played 506 games for the Stingray is back for his ninth season with the team. Last year's league leading goal scorer Dave Seitz drops the puck on his seventh season as a Stingray this Friday in Florence against the Pride.

Newcomers Brent Henley and Robin Gomez promise to make the Stingrays a more physical team than in years past. Goaltender Kirk Daubenspeck is back in net for the Rays, along side rookie Dean Weasler. The Rays defense is as good as ever with returning blue liners Trevor Johnson, Brad Williamson, Aaron Schneekloth, Matt Desrosiers and Ryan Brindley. Up front the Stingrays will get help from newcomers Peter Armbrust, Curtis Huppe and Mike Jickling.

"This team is very balanced right now," added Fitzsimmons. "We have a good mix of players that should really gel as a unit. This team is going to work hard every night. We will not get out worked."

The Stingrays home opener is October 19, when the team hosts the Columbus Cottonmouths. South Carolina opens its season this weekend with a Friday night contest in Florence against the Pride and a Saturday night game in Greenville against the Grrrowl.
