
Sea Wolves Announce Opening Night Roster

BILOXI, Miss. - Mississippi Sea Wolves coach Bob Woods announced today a number of roster moves and the opening night roster for the 2002-03 season.
Right Wing / Defenseman Doug Christiansen was signed as a free agent. Defenseman David Cornacchia (cor-NACK-ee-ah) has been assigned by the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League and placed on the 30-day injured reserve. Goaltender Sean Matile (mah-TEEL) and left wing Josh Bennett were placed on the 7-day injured reserve. Defenseman Steve Bewley (BEW-lee) and center Jarrett Gibbons were released.
Christiansen, 24, attended the training camp of the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League. The 6-foot-5, 245-pound native of Elm Grove, Wisconsin plays both right wing and defense and has signed a one-year contract with the Sea Wolves. Last season, Christiansen finished his collegiate career at Union College scoring six goals and adding five assists to go along with 40 penalty minutes in 31 games.
Cornacchia, 21, attended the training camp with Hershey. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound native of Toronto, Ontario split last season between the Quebec Citadelles of the AHL, New Mexico Scorpions of the Central Hockey League and the Sea Wolves. With Mississippi, Cornacchia played the final five games of the regular season. In 10 games during the playoffs, he collected five assists and 10 penalty minutes.
The Sea Wolves opening night active roster consists of 11 forwards, six defensemen and two goaltenders. Forwards are Dwayne Blais (BLAH), Cody Bowtell (boe-TELL), Darryl Campbell, Doug Christiansen, John Evangelista (IH-van-jell-LIST-ah), Jeff Hutchins, Seneque Hyacinthe (seh-NEEK HI-ah-cinth), Travis Lisabeth, Dave Paradise, Blair Stayzer and Steffon Walby (STEFF-in WAHL-bee). The Mississippi defensemen are Jim Baxter, Chris Cava (CAHV-ah), Ryan Clark, Jason Crain, Austin Miller and Patrick Rochon (ROE-shon). Mike Buckley and Greg Gardner are the Sea Wolves goaltenders.
Mississippi opens its seventh season as a member of the East Coast Hockey League on the road at Baton Rouge on Saturday, October 12. The puck drops at the Riverside Centroplex at 7:05 p.m.
The Sea Wolves home opener is Sunday at 5:05 p.m. against the intrastate rival Jackson Bandits. An adult purchasing an individual game ticket will receive one FREE ticket for a child 12 and under. The Blues Brothers will also be performing!
