Greensboro, NC — The Greensboro Generals of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) have announced the signing of right wing Sam Ftorek (fe-TORE-ik) to a contract. Ftorek will travel with the Generals to Lexington, Kentucky for opening night against the Lexington Men O'War this Friday night at 7:30.

Ftorek, 27, spent last season with the Bracknell Bees in the British Ice Hockey Superleague (BISL), scoring a career-high 18 goals and tying a career high with 33 points in only 47 games. The fourth year pro has spent plenty of time in the ECHL as well for both the Mobile Mysticks and Augusta Lynx. Ftorek notched 33 points (15g, 18a) for the Mysticks in 2000-2001, while scoring 42 points (17g, 25a) in 91 games for the Lynx. The 6'2", 190-pounder isn't afraid to get in thick of things on the ice either, notching 345 penalty minutes in 221 career games. Ftorek also comes from tremendous hockey bloodlines. He is the son of current Boston Bruins head coach Robbie Ftorek.

In addition to the acquisition of Ftorek, the Generals made several cuts from their roster today. Greensboro released goaltender Bill Horn, defenseman Dean Shmyr, and forwards Craig Desjarlais, Adam Doucette, John Floros, Max Leaming, and Curt Peterson.

The Generals' home opener is Friday, October 25 at 7:30 against the Reading Royals. Opening night is Hooters Magnetic Schedule Night, with the first 2,000 fans entering the building receiving a Generals 2002-2003 schedule. The Generals are currently selling season tickets for all 36 home games for as low as $255.00 for goal view seats. Anyone purchasing season tickets will receive a season parking pass absolutely free while supplies last.
