Generals Announce Opening Night Roster

Greensboro, NC — The Greensboro Generals have announced their opening night roster for their fourth season in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). The 18-man squad, led by new head coach Rick Adduono (ah-DOO-no), will charge the Generals into battle starting this Friday at 7:30 at the Lexington Men O'War for opening night.

The Generals roster consists of ten forwards, six defensemen, and two goaltenders. The front line is headed by new team captain Jay Murphy, who comes to the Generals after six years with the Louisiana IceGators. Three of the forwards, Chris Bell, Vlad Serov (SEER-ov), and David Whitworth, are returning from last years club. The other Generals forwards are Shane Campbell, Sam Ftorek, Pete Gardiner, Ole Kjenstad (O-lee JEN-sted), Matt Turek, and Mark Turner, who will be one of the team's two alternate captains.

The Generals defensive corps will be lead by the team's second alternate captain, Kurt Drummond. The other defenseman on the squad are Chris Allen, Alex Andreyev, Andrei Lupandin, Geno Parrish, and Juraj (YUR-i) Slovak. Three of the defenseman have Greensboro ties. Lupandin is the only returning defenseman from last year's team, Slovak played for the Generals two seasons ago, and Allen started his pro career with the American Hockey League's Carolina Monarchs in 1997.

Commanding the goaltending tandem for the Generals is 16-year veteran Daniel Berthiaume (BERTH-ee-oom), who comes to Greensboro after playing for the division rival Roanoke Express the last five seasons. The Generals other goaltender is John Chain, who played for Greensboro in the final month of last season.

The Generals' home opener is Friday, October 25 at 7:30 against the Reading Royals. Opening night is Hooters Magnetic Schedule Night, with the first 2,000 fans entering the building receiving a Generals 2002-2003 schedule.
