Greenville Grrrowl News Release

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Greenville Grrrowl of the East Coast Hockey League announced on Wednesday that goaltender JAYME PLATT has agreed to terms of a contract with the team. Platt is expected to sign the deal later today. Terms of the deal will not be disclosed.

Last season with the Grrrowl, Platt went 30-9-1, and posted a 2.53 goals against average in 40 regular season games. The 24-year old Redmond, Washington native also appeared in 5 playoff games as the Greenville Grrrowl claimed the 2002 Kelly Cup Championship.

"I was hoping to take the next step and play in the American Hockey League this season", said Platt. "But Greenville is my team, we're the defending champions and if I'm going to play in the coast (ECHL), I wanted to come here. So, yeah, I'm very happy to be back."

Grrrowl VP of Hockey Operations/Head Coach John Marks added, "The goaltender is probably the most important player on any hockey team. With Platt returning, I feel like we've really solidified an important position. We're hoping he can pick up where he left off last season, and if he does, we should be just fine."

After a successful 4-year collegiate career at Lake Superior State University, Platt recorded an ECHL-high 30 wins in his professional rookie campaign with the Grrrowl last season.

In a related move, the Grrrowl officially released goaltender RYAN McINTOSH from their roster today.

The East Coast Hockey League's regular season starts this Friday night in Charlotte as the Grrrowl face the Checkers at Cricket Arena (7:35 PM, WORD Radio). Tickets for the home-opener against the South Carolina Stingrays this Saturday, October 12th (7:05 PM) are on sale at the BI-LO Center Box Office and all TicketMaster outlets.
