Stingrays Fall Short to Everblades

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays (3-4-0-0) fired 40 shots, but fell short to the Florida Everblades (6-4-0-0) 2-1 in front of 3,787 at the North Charleston Coliseum Saturday night.

After a scoreless opening period, Everblades forward Mathieu Roy lit the lamp at 5:53 of the second frame from forward Mike Kennedy and defenseman Phil Paquet. The Everblades made it 2-0 late in the period on the power play when winger Alex Hutchings tapped in a pass from Mitch Fadden past Stingrays goaltender Shane Connelly at 18:06. Defenseman Elgin Reid received the second assist.

The Stingrays cut the lead in half 58 seconds into the third period with a blast from forward Jake Hauswirth. Defenseman Johann Kroll recorded the lone assist. After the early marker, the Rays fired 10 more shots, but could not solve Everblades goaltender Jaroslav Janus.

Connelly suffered his first loss of the season stopping 17 of 19 Everblades shots. Janus improved to 3-2-0-0 kicking away 39 of 40 chances. Florida ended the night 1-for-6 on the power play while the Stingrays went 0-for-6.

Opening Weekend concludes tomorrow, Sunday, November 7 against the Everblades at 4:00 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum.
