Alaska Aces News Release

Four different Aces scored, and Brian Swanson led all players with a pair of goals as the Aces topped the Ontario Reign 5-2 on Saturday night, capping a phenomenal 4-1 road trip. The Aces improved to 7-2 on the season, and moved into a sole possession of first place in the Western Conference and Mountain Division. The Aces now return home for a three-game set with the Reign on Friday, Saturday and Sunday Nov. 12th - 14th for Military Appreciation Weekend. The Aces dominated play in the first period, scoring twice, and allowing just one shot on goal. The game stayed scoreless for most of the frame, until Brian Swanson scored a brilliant shorthanded goal at 15:34. Swanson stole the puck at the Aces blue line, flipped it forward, and then hustled down the ice to pick Shawn Collymore's pocket in the Reign zone. He cut in from the bottom of the right circle and slid the puck underneath Kellen Briggs and into the net for an unassisted shorthanded goal. The Aces added to their lead at 18:08 when Chris Langkow found Zach Harrison in the slot and he snapped a shot past Briggs for his first pro goal. The Aces outshot the Reign 9-1 in the period, and led 2-0 at first intermission.

The Reign turned the tables in the second period with a pair of goals to tie the score. Luke Beaverson scored a beautiful goal cutting into the Aces zone, and collecting his own rebound at 8:02, getting the Reign on the board. Ontario then tied the score on a power play when Matt Delahey's shot from the end line, bounced off the stick of Aces netminder, Adam Courchaine and into the net behind him at 14:40. The Reign outshot the Aces 9-6 in the period, and the game went into the third period tied 2-2.

It was the Aces turn again in the third, and they didn't waste much time. Alex Dzielski scored his first pro goal at 2:09 to reclaim Alaska's lead. Less than a minute later at 3:05, Ethan Cox finished off a two-on-one rush to make it 4-2 Aces. Swanson then capped the game with an empty net goal at 17:33 to seal the Aces win.

Adam Courchaine (2-0) made 23 saves on 25 shots. Kellen Briggs (1-5-0-1) took the loss, with 27 saves on 31 shots. The Aces power play went 0-4, while the Reign went 1-8. The Aces outshot the Reign 32-25.

The Aces now return home for a three-game set with the Reign on Friday, Saturday and Sunday Nov. 12th - 14th for Military Appreciation Weekend. The Aces will wear military-themed jerseys on Friday and Saturday, and will auction them off to fans following the game on Saturday night. On Friday and Saturday, you can bring an unwrapped, plush toy to the game, and throw it onto the ice after the Aces first goal, as part of the Aces Toy Toss collected for donation this holiday season. Then following Sunday's game, the Aces will host the first Fred Meyer Skate with the Aces session this season. Ticket specials are currently available through the Aces office.
