Atlanta Gladiators News Release
DULUTH, GA - A night after losing 3-1 to the Greenville Road Warriors, the Gladiators responded with a dominant 5-3 win Saturday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
The first goal of the night came from the Road Warriors (4-2-1-0) at the 9:14 mark in the first as Justin Bowers scored the first of two for him to put the Road Warriors ahead 1-0.
Ryan Garbutt tied the game early in the second for the Gladiators (6-2-0-2) when he fired a shot through a pack of defenders and past goaltender Nic Riopel, who stymied Gwinnett just the night before.
Three minutes later that tally was matched by Derek Nesbitt, his 7th goal of the season, putting the Gladiators in the lead 2-1.
Garbutt got his second goal of the night with a shot with a deflection in the low slot past a helpless Riopel to push the lead to two goals at the end of two periods. Gwinnett outshot Greenville 20-9 in the period.
Bowers struck again to cut the deficit in half for Greenville, making it 3-2 with his second goal of the night and third in the past two games.
However the Gladiators responded with another goal at the 10:22 mark coming off the stick of defensemen Paul Flache on a power play rebound in the crease. That would prove to be the game-winner.
Shortly after, Gladiators forward Dan Kissel produced his second goal of the season. Ryan Garbutt picked up the assist to cap a two goal, two assist night. Derek Nesbitt added a goal and an assist.
T.J. Reynolds scored late for the Road Warriors, but it was too little too late.
The Gladiators and the Road Warriors are back in action Sunday at 4:05 at The Arena at Gwinnett Center.
