South Carolina Stingrays News Release
Duluth, GA - The South Carolina Stingrays (33-18-1-6) picked up their 15th consecutive win, tying the second longest streak in ECHL history, behind a 3-0 victory over the Gwinnett Gladiators (17-35-2-4) at The Arena at Gwinnett Center Saturday evening. Forward Brandon Wong netted a goal and an assist and goaltender Jeff Jakaitis registered his third shutout of the season stopping all 23 Gladiators shots.
The Stingrays broke the scoreless tie on the power play with 1:42 remaining in the first period as Wong floated a pass from the right-wing circle to the top for the crease for forward Joe Devin to redirect between the legs of Gladiators goaltender Mike Lee (L, 28 saves on 31 shots). Forward Andrew Rowe added the second assist.
Wong made it 2-0 with a man-advantage maker at 15:28 of the middle stanza snapping a shot under the blocker of Lee off the left wing. Rowe and defenseman Frankie Simonelli added assists.
Forward Wayne Simpson netted his 13 goal of the season early in the third period knocking a rebound off a Lee Moffie shot from the point past Lee. Forward Rob Ricci picked up the second assist. The Stingrays finished the game 2-for-5 on the power play while the Gladiators went 0-for-7.
