
Americans Hold off Mallards 3-2

MOLINE, Ill. - Chad Costello had a goal and an assist and Greger Hanson scored what proved to be the game winner as the Allen Americans (38-11-7) defeated t he host Quad City Mallards (29-23-7) 3-2 Saturday night With the victory, the Central Division-leading Americans earned a split of their two-game weekend series with the second place Mallards
The Americans responded with three straight goals after the Mallards' Kevin Baker opened the scoring from the right wing circle at 17:52 of the first period. Gary Steffes pounced on a rebound to tie the score at one just 47 seconds into the second period. At 8:29 of the second period Costello was credited with the second Allen goal after the Mallards' Jannik Christensen accidentally put the puck into his own net. Costello was the last American to touch the puck before it crossed the goal line.
Hanson stretched the lead to 3-1 by burying a wrist shot from the left wing circle at 14:13 of the third period. That goal loomed even larger when the Mallards- after pulling goaltender Evan Mosher- clawed back within with 1:22 left in the third. Logan Nelson scored the second Mallard goal from the doorstep but the Mallards were unable to produce a late equalizer.
The Mallards return to action next Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Missouri Maverickson home ice. Fans can purchase four tickets to each Mallards Wednesday home game this season for just $20. In addition, after Wednesday's game, fans can join the Mallards at T.G.I. Friday's on River Drive in Moline- adjacent to the iWireless Center- for a postgame party.
Tickets for all remaining Mallards regular season home games- including Wednesday night's game- are on sale now at the iWireless Center box office, Ticketmaster outlets, ticketmaster.com and Ticketmaster charge-by-phone toll free at 1-800-745-3000 . The box office is open weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and game days from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the second period. Tickets are available for $10, $16, $20 and $28.
