Idaho Steelheads News Release
BOISE, Idaho - After a plethora of roster changes last week, the Idaho Steelheads traveled to San Diego and dropped two, returning home empty-handed. With 24 games in the books, the Steelheads are 14-10-0, 28 points. They rank third in their division in points, but with a .583 winning percentage they are fourth. The team is 4-10-0 at home and 6-4-0 on the road. They welcome the Bakersfield Condors (9-12-2, 20 points) to the Bank of America Centre for a three-game series this week.
GAME RECAPS: 12/12/03 @ SAN DIEGO: IDAHO 1- SAN DIEGO 2 SAN DIEGO, California (Ticker) -- Trevor Koenig made 30 saves and Mike Garrow and Clayton Read scored in a 13-second span as the San Diego Gulls beat the Idaho Steelheads, 2-1. Koenig turned aside 12 shots in each of the first two periods before stopping all six he faced in the third. Garrow broke a scoreless tie 3:11 into the second period and Read doubled the lead 13 seconds later for San Diego, which improved to 8-1-1 in their last 10 games against Pacific Division opponents. Lance Galbraith tallied in the second period for Idaho, which lost for only the second time this season in games decided by one goal (7-2). Dan Ellis made 15 saves in defeat.
12/13/03 @ SAN DIEGO: IDAHO 3 - SAN DIEGO 6 SAN DIEGO, California (Ticker) -- Mike Garrow and Mark Pederson each scored a pair of power-play goals as the San Diego Gulls rallied from a three-goal deficit to beat the Idaho Steelheads, 6-3. Garrow, who also supplied a pair of assists, scored 1:55 into the second period to bring San Diego within a goal at 3-2. Pederson, who got the Gulls on the board with 11 seconds left in the first period, tied the score at the eight-minute mark of the middle session. Chris Gobert gave San Diego its first lead 6:49 into the third period with his first goal since being dealt to the Gulls by Idaho on Friday. Kevin Grant provided four assists for San Diego, which improved to 3-0 against the Steelheads. Trevor Koening stopped all 18 shots he faced over the final two periods and finished with 25 saves in the win. Jan Kopecky registered a goal and an assist in the first period for Idaho, which has dropped three of its last four games on the heels of a four-game winning streak. Blair Allison made 19 saves in the loss.
IN THE NET: Goaltender Dan Ellis, 8-7-0 (2.52 avg. and .913 save percentage) was recalled to AHL affiliate Utah Grizzlies on 12/13/03, and Robert Orban has been added to the roster as emergency goaltender. Blair Allison is 6-3-0, with a 2.23 avg. and .906 save percentage.
SCORING LEADERS: Jan Kopecky (F) continues to the team in scoring with 23 points (10 goals, 13 assists). Scott Burt (F) is second with 15 points (4 goals and 10 assists). Zenon Konopka (F) is third with 14 points - 6 goals and 8 assists.
PP and PK: Idaho's power play is 12.76%, scoring 18 in 141 chances this season. The team's overall penalty kill is 80.74%, allowing 26 in 135 attempts.

OF NOTE: Goaltender Dan Ellis (8-7-0) was recalled to AHL affiliate Utah Grizzlies on December 13th, and Robert Orban was added to the roster as emergency goaltender. Forwards Andrei Vasilyev, Miguel Delisle, and Jason Payne each played their first game with Idaho on December 12th against San Diego.
