Bakersfield Condors News Release
Last Week
Tuesday, December 9
Charlotte came into town for the first of a two-game set on Tuesday night and dominated, beating the Condors 4-1. The Checkers outshot Bakersfield 30-10 through two periods, leading 2-1, and added two more in the third period to cruise to the win. Jason Ralph scored the only goal for the Condors, just 15 seconds into the contest, but it was the only highlight of the night, as Charlotte won their fourth in a row.
Friday, December 12
This time, it was Bakersfield that held the Checkers to a low shot total, but were foiled by the Charlotte sharp shooters, who scored on their first four shots of the game. They led 4-0 early in the second, despite being outshot 16-4 at that point. Peter Hirsch replaced Joe Watkins after he allowed the fourth goal of the game, but it wasn't enough for Bakersfield, who lost 6-1. Darren Shakotko scored the only Condors goal.
Sunday, December 14
The Condors came back with a vengeance on Sunday and shredded the Long Beach Ice Dogs 9-2. 13 different players recorded a point in the game, including Denis Ladouceur, who ended the night with five assists. Jani Virtanen and Paul Rosebush scored two goals each, and Joe Watkins stopped 26 shots for the win. Head Coach Paul Kelly became the most victorious coach in team history, picking up his 82nd victory with the Condors. The nine goals scored is the most by any Condors team.
Where we are
Bakersfield's win on Sunday put them alone in fifth place in the Pacific Division. The Condors have a two point lead on Fresno, with two games in hand. They are 7-7-1 on home ice and 9-12-2 overall.
Paul Kelly Becomes All-Time Win Leader
Head Coach Paul Kelly picked up his 82nd Condors victory on Sunday against Long Beach. His career record with Bakersfield is 82-69-16 (.516). He has coached in fewer games in team history than either of the previous two coaches and easily the best winning percentage: Kevin MacDonald (81-105-28, .405) and Keith Gretzky (Bakersfield Fog, 79-92-15, .443). Kelly was selected as the West Coast Hockey League Coach of the Year last season and also won the award in the Central Hockey League in 2000-01.
This week
The Condors head to Idaho for three games this week. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday's games all start at 6:05pm Pacific Time. All games, home and away, can be heard live on KGEO AM 1230, with Kevin Bartl calling the play-by-play. Bakersfield is 1-1-1 against the Idaho Steelheads, with both teams scoring eight goals. The Steelheads sit just four points out of first place in the Pacific Division.

Notes from the Nest
· Andrew Ianiero has scored in five straight games (1g-6a-7pts). He is the fourth Condor this year to have a five-game scoring streak.
· The 9-2 win on Sunday is the most goals scored in Condors history. The Bakersfield Fog, in 1996-97, scored at least 10 goals in a game on four different occasions, including a 13-0 triumph over the Alaska (Fairbanks) Gold Kings.
· 13 players recorded at least one point in Sunday's win. Only three players, including the goaltender, didn't score.
· Denis Ladouceur's five assists on Sunday is a season-high for assists and points.
· The Condors have scored first in just seven of their 23 games this season.
Quote of the Week
"I guess he didn't want to play anymore. He kept cross-checking me and I'm not going to take that crap." Condors Captain Paul Rosebush, in reference to Long Beach Captain Craig Lyons, whom he fought twice within a 7:19 span of the third period on Sunday, as quoted in the Bakersfield Californian.
