Steelheads take series finale from Condors, 5-2

BOISE, Idaho - The Bakersfield Condors fell to the Idaho Steelheads, 5-2, before 3,730 fans at Qwest Arena in Boise Saturday night, concluding a three-game series between the two teams.

Idaho (16-11-2, 34pts) opened the scoring 4:15 into the first period and added two more goals in the span 13 seconds midway through the frame to pull ahead, 3-0. After the third goal, G Ryan Nie took over between the pipes for G Yutaka Fukufuji and stopped all four shots he faced to close the opening period.

The Condors (9-14-4, 22pts) got on the board at 7:57 in the second period, when F Matt Pope lit the lamp with a wrist shot from the bottom of the left wing face off circle to bring Bakersfied within two, 3-1. Nie stopped all seven shots he faced in the frame.

The Condors continued their comeback 2:57 into the third period when F Andrew Ianiero redirected the puck into the net from the low slot, making it 3-2. However, Idaho responded with a pair of goals midway through the period from RW Garett Bembridge and F Ben Nelson to extend their lead back to three, 5-2, the eventual final score.
