Dayton Downs Cincinnati 5-4 in Shootout

Cincinnati, OH- The Dayton Bombers beat the Cincinnati Cyclones 5-4 in a shootout on "Beat Dayton Night" as Danny LaPointe scored the game winner on Saturday.

In the first period Mike McLean gave the Bombers an early 1-0 lead in the closing minute of the frame from LaPointe and Greg Labenski. The Bombers, however, were outshot 17 to 6 in the period.

Then in the second Dayton extended their lead to 2-0 when Dominic D'Amour scored his fifth of the year on a 5 on 3 opportunity with assists from Les Reaney and Labenski. Following two periods of play the Cyclones were still outshooting the Bombers 27-16.

Cincinnati would open the third period with four unanswered goals, including three on the power play, to take a 4-2 lead. With less than five minutes remaining in regulation the Bombers would once again mount their comeback agianst the Cyclones. First Labenski scored on another 5 on 3 chance from Joe Van Culin and D'Amour, then with a sixth attacker Jarret Lukin would net the equalizer with just 45 seconds left in the game.

In overtime dayton goaltender Paul Drew would face five shots from Cincinnati and deny them all. The Bombers put just 2 shots at the Cyclones' Martin Houle, who had seen only 22 shots on the night.

Facing his first shooutout of the season Drew denied the first four Cyclones shooters he faced. Meanwhile the Bombers' Justin Bowers scored for Dayton, then Danny LaPointe tallied the game winner on the Bombers final shot of the game.

Dayton went 2 of 7 on the power play and 8 of 11 on the penalty kill. Drew finished the game 47 of 51.
