STERO, FL - Ryan Cruthers scored a highlight reel goal in the second period but it wasn't enough as the Florida Everblades defeated the Mississippi Sea Wolves by the score of 5-2 on Saturday night at Germain Arena in Estero, Florida.

Florida got on the board early when Peter Metcalf's drive on the power play found the back of the net at 3:52 of the first period. Colin Nicholson notched his fifth goal of the year when Sea Wolves goaltender Ryan Munce misplayed the puck behind the Mississippi net, resulting in an easy tap in for Nicholson and a 2-0 lead for the Everblades. Less than a minute later, Andrew Sweetland notched his first goal of the season on a wraparound to give Florida a 3-0 lead.

Ryan Cruthers made a nifty move to get around Everblades defenseman Doug O'Brien and beat Florida goalie David Leggio on the glove side at 6:52 of the second period for his team-leading 18th goal of the year. Kyle Peto's shot from the right point on the power play eluded Leggio, cutting the Florida lead to one at 18:39 of the second, but Kevin Baker's goal at 19:47 restored the Everblades two-goal lead heading into the second intermission.

Ryan Lang added an insurance goal at 1:09 of the third period to give Florida a 5-2 lead.

Mississippi was 1-for-6 on the power play and Ryan Munce made 35 saves, taking the loss.

The Sea Wolves return home January 23 at 7:05 p.m. against the Charlotte Checkers! Get your tickets today by calling (228) 275-WOLF.
