Steelheads Sweep Thunder With A 3-0 Victory In Series Finale
March 22, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release
Boise, ID - Goaltender Matt Zaba made 32 saves for his third shutout of the season and Lance Galbraith scored on a penalty shot late in the first period as the Steelheads topped the Thunder 3-0 in front of a sold out crowd of 5,024 fans at Qwest Arena on Saturday night, completing the three-game sweep.
The Steelheads (37-22-9) have now won their last seven games on home ice against the Thunder (25-37-3) including last year's postseason, while posting 21 home wins overall, which surpasses last season's total.
With 1:09 to go in the opening period, Galbraith was awarded a penalty shot, his second against the Thunder in just three weeks. Unlike the last opportunity, where Thunder goaltender Glenn Fisher (29 saves) thwarted Galbraith, the seventh year pro beat the rookie net minder five-hole for his 20th marker and a 1-0 Steelheads lead. The eventual game-winner was his team-leading sixth of that variety.
Then with 3.3 seconds left in the frame Taggart Desmet deposited Andrew Martin's centering pass for his 27th of the year, a five-on-three power play goal. Mark Bomersback also collected an assist as the Steelheads took a 2-0 advantage into the dressing room.
There was no scoring in the second period and through 40 minutes the Steelheads led in shots 26-21.
Colin Sinclair iced the game with his second goal in as many nights, an empty-netter with 40 seconds left in regulation. Marty Flichel picked up the only helper. For the night, the final shots were even at 32 apiece. The Steelheads finished one-for-four on the power play, while the Thunder ended zero-for-seven. Zaba is now 11-4-1 with the Steelheads and 14-8-2 on the season, while Fisher lost for the 18th time.
The Steelheads now hit the road for their final two road games of the regular season beginning on March 28 against the Thunder. The puck drops at 8:10 p.m. MST. All the action can be heard live on 1350 AM, KTIK "The Ticket" or via the B2 Networks. Don't forget, Steelheads' single-game tickets can be purchased via www.idahosteelheads.com (using the print-at-home feature), by calling 331-TIXS or from the Qwest Arena box office.
