Mississippi Clinches Berth in Kelly Cup Playoffs With 2-1 Overtime Victory Against Texas

BILOXI, MS - Gio Flamminio fired a bouncing puck past Texas goaltender Kris Tebbs to give the Mississippi Sea Wolves a 2-1 win over the Texas Wildcatters and clinch a berth in the Kelly Cup Playoffs.

Texas created a number of offensive chances in the first period, recording 28 shots on net. Up to the task was Sea Wolves goalie Ryan Munce, who made a season-high 28 saves in a single period, keeping the game scoreless.

After a scoreless second period that saw Mississippi create several scoring chances but fail to find the net, Colin Nicholson made a backhand wraparound move to give Texas a 1-0 lead at the 6:30 mark of the third period. Mississippi responded in a big way, notching their fifth power-play goal of the series when Jason Beeman fired the puck past Tebbs from the left side of the slot to tie the game at one-apiece and force overtime.

"Tonight it was a total team effort," said Sea Wolves head coach Steffon Walby. "Ryan Munce stole the show in the first period, keeping us alive, and then the guys buckled down and made a great effort and got reward for it."

With under one minute remaining in overtime, Mark Hurtubise took the puck in over the Texas blueline, carried to the right wing corner and passed to Ryan Menei, who fired into traffic. The puck then bounced to Gio Flamminio, who knocked it past Tebbs ofr the game-winner at 4:29 of the extra session.

Ryan Munce made 44 saves to earn the win, and the Sea Wolves were 1-for-5 on the power play.
