Trenton Devils News Release

READIGN, PA - The Trenton Devils began their final road trip of the season with a tough loss, dropping 3-1 to the Reading Royals. Jim Henkel scored the opening goal of the game to give himself five points in two nights, but it was not enough.

Henkel's tally came on a high-speed breakout 5:31 into the contest. Eric Castonguay took a between-the-legs feed from Stephen Wood and raced out into space with his line of Colin Pepperall and Henkel.

A right-wing pass gave the puck to Pepperall, who then placed it right on the blade of the centerman. Henkel barely had to move his stick at all as the ensuing carom placed the puck between John Murray and the left side of the net.

Trenton would then be forced to kill off three penalties to end the first frame, and Reading used that momentum in the second period, scoring twice to take the lead for good.

After Malcolm MacMillan tied the game with 46 seconds gone by in the middle frame, the Devils found themselves staring at a five-on-three against.

Coach Rick Kowalsky's squad managed to kill off the two-man disadvantage, but could not stop Dany Roussin from bouncing a puck off the back end of a defenseman's skate and into the goal.

Dave Pszenyczny would ice the game in the third period, firing a low shot through Jason Smith at 9:29 in.

The Devils went oh-for-seven on the power play, one night after pumping four extra-man goals into the back of the net.

Jason Smith stopped 24 of 27 shots in the loss. John Murray, playing in just his second professional game, earned the win with 27 saves on 28 shots, but had three Trenton shots ring off the pipes.

The Trenton Devils continue their final road trip of the season with a stop at Elmira next Wednesday March 26th at 7:05pm. Tune into WBCB 1490 or go online to www.trentondevils.com and listen or watch live courtesy of B2 Networks.
