Alaska Aces News Release

LAS VEGAS - Aki Seitsonen stole the puck from Alaska goaltender Chris Beckford-Tseu and tucked a backhander home for the winner with 15.9 seconds remaining as Las Vegas shocked the Aces, 4-3, in front of 7,424 Friday at Orleans Arena.

For the sixth consecutive game on this two-week road trip, Alaska scored first, as from behind the net, Josh Soares fed Olivier Filion, who flipped a one-timer just underneath the crossbar with 4:56 left in the opening period. Less than two minutes later, Matt Shasby punched home a rebound, and the Aces took a 2-0 lead into the dressing room. Alaska killed seven Las Vegas power plays in the first two periods, but seconds after the last of those, an attempted clear by Felipe Larranaga hit one of the Wranglers and caromed directly to Seitsonen, who scored the first goal against Beckford-Tseu in 107:30 with 2:15 left in the middle frame, pulling the hosts within 2-1 after 40 minutes.

A hotly disputed goal by Peter Ferraro at 2:09 of the third period tied the game 2-2, and another clearing effort that bounced off a Vegas attacker led to Seitson's second goal, which put the Wranglers ahead for the first time at 3-2 with 15:17 left in regulation. Derick Martin picked off a drop pass and fed a streaking Kimbi Daniels for a breakaway that the 17-year pro buried with 9:16 remaining to create a 3-3 tie. A too many men on the ice penalty, the second of the game whistled against Las Vegas, gave the Aces a chance to win in regulation, but the misplay by Beckford-Tseu (not to mention Seitsonen's hat trick) instead results in a loss that drops Alaska into a three-way tie for the West Division lead with Idaho and Victoria, both of whom won at home on Friday.

The Aces (38-23-5) fly out tomorrow morning and return to practice Monday in preparation for a three-game series against Phoenix that opens Wednesday night at 7:15 p.m. ADT in Sullivan Arena. Friday and Saturday's contests also begin at 7:15 p.m. All three games will be broadcast live on AM 750 KFQD, with coverage beginning 15 minutes prior to the opening face-off. Alaska finishes its regular season schedule with three games at Victoria, beginning April 2.
