Bombers Score First; Fall Late to Elmira

March 22, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Dayton Bombers News Release

Elmira, NY - The Dayton Bombers looked to get back to their winning ways as they took on the Elmira Jackals for the second time in three nights at First Arena. Dayton, coming off a loss at Trenton last night, didn't seem to have any hangover affects, as they struck less than four minutes into the game. Credit the goal to Mike Berry, who snuck behind the defense as Brad Bonello fed him a great pass. The goal gave Berry his 8th of the season and Bonello his second point in as many nights. Rejean Beauchemin, back in net for the Bombers, came up with stellar saves in the period, as he held off all 12 shots he faced through the first twenty minutes.

Beauchemin continued his hot goaltending in the 2nd period stopping 12 out of the 13 shots that he saw. The lone goal came when Elmira's Chaz Johnson was able to slip one by the Bombers' net-minder to earn his 21st goal of the season. Dayton fired 8 shots on the Jackals' Joel Martin, none of them, however, finding the back of the net.

The Jackals' Johnson earned his second goal of the night, which later proved to be the game-winner, coming at the 11:16 mark in the final frame as Dayton was unable to light up the scoreboard in the period. Coming into the 3rd period, there had only been 4 penalties. The final twenty minutes brought another 4 penalties, including 3 power plays for the Bombers, with the last one coming with just less than two minutes remaining in the game. Dayton had the man advantage 5 times in the game but unfortunately was never able to capitalize. The Bombers managed only 5 shots on goal in the period giving them 20 for the night, while Rejean Beauchemin stopped 34 of the 36 shots he faced. The Dayton Bombers head back to the "friendly confines" of the Nutter Center Tuesday night as they take on the Reading Royals at 7:00 P.M.
