Catters Give Up Four Power Play Goals, Fall 6-1 to Sea Wolves

March 22, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Texas Wildcatters News Release

Biloxi, MS- A drastically depleted Texas Wildcatters squad suffered a rare blowout loss Friday night, giving up four power play goals as they fell to the Mississippi Sea Wolves 6-1.

Kris Tebbs began the night in goal for the Wildcatters and took the loss, giving up the first four goals and making 13 saves in just over 41 minutes. Jeff Pietrasiak came on in relief in the third period and allowed two additional goals while making 11 saves.

Missing eight players to AHL call ups and center Scott Champagne to a knee injury likely to keep him on the sidelines through the first round of the playoffs, the Wildcatters skated to a scoreless tie with the Sea Wolves in the first period. That would change in the second as the usually-stalwart Texas defense yielded an unanswered even-strength goal and two power play tallies.

Trailing 3-0 at the start of the third period, Brandon Scero scored the first of his two goals less than two minutes in to make the score 4-0 and promptHead Coach Malcolm Cameron to call on Pietrasiak.

Dave Schulz scored the lone Texas goal on the power play at 4:12 (Kinley, McNabb), but any hopes of a Texas comeback would be squelched with two late Mississippi power play goals. The eighth-place Sea Wolves, likely first-round opponents of the top-seeded Wildcatters, finished the night 4-for-7 on the power play while Texas mustered only one goal in three power play chances.

The Catters and Sea Wolves continue their three-game series tomorrow at 7:05 and conclude Sunday at 5:00.
