Reading Royals News Release
Elmira, NY - The Reading Royals (36-22-6=78, 3rd North Division) of the ECHL won for the first time in team history at First Arena in Elmira, New York, as Reading beat the Elmira Jackals, 2-0, which also marked the first shutout against the Jackals this season. Goaltender John Murray (1-0-0; 38/38) stopped all thirty-eight shots he faced in his first pro game; while Joel Martin (24-13-4; 22/24) took the loss for the Jackals.
After a scoreless first period, the Royals got on the board 12:18 into the second on the team's third power play chance of the game. Dany Roussin found Kevin Saurette low in the right circle; and Saurette attempted to fire a pass across the top of the crease, where Mike Salekin had slipped in for the back-door play. However, the puck apparently caromed off the skate of an Elmira defender and into the net for Saurette's eleventh goal of the year. Reading got some insurance with a second power play goal 8:37 into the third. After Dave Pszenyczny dumped the puck into the offensive end, Roussin dug it off the left half wall and fed Brock Hooton low in the left circle. Hooton took a couple strides towards the Jackals' net and fired a snap shot high glove side on Martin for his team leading twenty third goal of the year. The Royals and Murray held the Jackals off the board down the stretch to snap a six game road winless streak.
The Royals are back in action tomorrow night (March 22; 7:05 pm) when the Trenton Devils visit the Sovereign Center. The first 1500 fans at tomorrow's game will receive an 'R-Team/R-Town' pub glass courtesy of Sam Adams and All-Star Distributing. The game night broadcast on Saturday will begin at 6:35 pm with the pre-game warm-up show on ESPN Radio 1240 am in Ephrata, as well as on the internet through the Royals' website, www.royalshockey.com. Streaming video is available on a pay per view basis through the B2 Networks.
