Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads won its fifth consecutive game tonight with a record-setting 12-3 win over the Victoria Salmon Kings before 4,564 at the Bank of America Centre Friday night. The 12 goals eclipses the previous team record of 11, set on November 3rd, 2000 in an 11-2 win at Anchorage. Every Idaho skater recorded at least one point in tonight's game, led by Lance Galbraith's hat trick. Galbraith also had an assist, for a game-high 4 points.

Idaho's 7 goals in the second period set the ECHL's season-high for most goals in a period (previous record was 6 by Alaska on 01/05/05 and Charlotte on 11/16/04).

Idaho outshot Victoria 39-16 on the game, as Steelheads goaltender Frank Doyle improved his record to 20-11-2.

Idaho opened the floodgates at 10:49 of the first period. Lance Galbraith passed to Frank Lukes from behind the net. Lukes demonstrated his patience and skated the puck from one side of the net to the other before seizing the opportunity to wrist the puck past netminder Dan Blackburn. Several Steelheads players took shots that Blackburn successfully stopped, but persistence paid off when Bobby Russell finally tallied. He scored on a backhander after picking up Brett Draney's rebound at 13:18.

Idaho continued its scoring ways with a goal early in the second period. The reverse of the last goal, Russell took the shot and Draney knocked home the rebound at :56. Warren Peters tallied his 14th of the season at 3:19. Defenseman Peter Metcalf, just returned from the American Hockey League's Utah Grizzlies, recorded a helper. On the power play :16 later, Galbraith redirected Darrell Hay's shot. Victoria got on the board at 7:07 on its first shot of the period when Ryan Wade, streaking to the net, gathered in Ryan Watson's pass and beat Doyle, glove side. Scott Burt scored shorthanded, picking up a Victoria turnover at the blue line, and skated in all alone. Victoria's power play ended just as Idaho had gained control of the puck, and captain Dan Vandermeer took a shot that Galbraith got in on the rebound. With the Steelheads' 7th goal of the game, Victoria pulled Blackburn and replaced the goaltender with Jason Stone. Galbraith tallied his hat trick on a goal that was redirected off a Salmon King's skate that got by Stone, five-hole. The Steelheads 9th goal of the game came when Billy Tibbitts made a beautiful pass from outside the left circle to Draney who tallied his second of the night at 10:13. Victoria's Chris Corrinet gave his team its second goal at 12:34.

Matt Elich scored Idaho's 10th goal from Riley Riddell at 4:18 of the third period and the 11th came from Frank Lukes 5:00 later. Scott Burt notched his second of the night and Idaho's final of the game as he tipped in a shot by Vandermeer. Jason Hegberg scored the Salmon Kings third goal, a power play goal, with just over 2:00 left in the game.
