AUGUSTA, GA â The Pee Dee Pride saw their three-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday night as they fell to the Augusta Lynx 6-2 at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center. The loss was the Pride's ninth straight defeat on the road.
Augusta used a power-play at the 2:23 mark of the opening period to get out to an early lead. Jamie Johnson had the puck in the near corner of the Pride zone and centered a pass in front to Colt King, who was able to beat Nick Boucher to the five-hole for his sixth goal of the season.
Pee Dee tied the game at the 9:08 mark of the first period. Eric Naud centered a pass to Steve Cygan at the top of crease, and his one-time shot beat Jason Saal to the stick side for his seventh goal of the season.
The Lynx retook the lead at the 14:37 mark of the opening period, just after another power-play opportunity expired. King found Matt Dzieduszycki wide open in the right-wing circle, and his shot beat Boucher for his 16th goal of the season.
Augusta extended its lead to 3-1 with just 14 seconds remaining in the first period. Johnson took a shot from the high slot which Boucher got a piece of, but the puck rolled past the line for Johnson's 15th marker of the year.
Augusta added another goal just 26 seconds into the second period to take a three-goal advantage. Joe Markusen took a shot from the left point that was deflected in front by King for his second goal of the night. Following the goal, Boucher was replaced in the net by Sebastien Laplante.
Pee Dee cut its deficit in half at the 15:54 mark of the second. Cygan found Darryl Green skating free down low, and Green beat Saal top shelf for his seventh of the season, and his second in as many nights.
But, the Lynx got the goal right back, scoring their second power-play of the game at the 18:44 mark. Ken Magowan fed a perfect centering pass in front for Eric Johansson, who deked Laplante to the ice, and beat the Pride goaltender to the near post for his 10th goal of the season.
Johnson scored his second of the night, and registered his fifth point, beating Laplante with a slapshot from the left-wing circle for Augusta's third power-play goal of the night at 12:40 of the third period.
The Pride are off until Friday when they host the South Carolina Stingrays at 7:30. Following the game, Builders First Source, Chick-fil-a, First Choice Healthcare and LifeWay Christian Store present a post-game concert featuring the contemporary Christian music of The Akin's.
