Florida Everblades News Release

ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (27-16-7) snapped the 12-game winning streak of the Pensacola Ice Pilots (34-12-4) with a 2-1 victory Saturday night at Germain Arena.

Steve Saviano's power play goal with 42 seconds remaining in the second period proved to be the difference as the Everblades earned their first win on home ice in the season series with Pensacola.

Saviano's goal came after the Ice Pilots tied the contest 1-1 at 5:14 of the second period on Alex Materukhin's 10th goal of the season, converting a breakaway into the Ice Pilots lone goal of the night.

Florida staked themselves to a 1-0 lead 12:53 into the game when Matt Hendricks jammed home a rebound past Pensacola net minder Todd Ford.

The Everblades consistently out-chanced the Ice Pilots throughout the night, but Ford made several big stops to keep Florida from piling up the goals. Overall the Everblades out-shot the Ice Pilots 45-21.

In what turned out to be a penalty filled game, it was the Everblades that capitalized on one of their seven chances with the man-advantage, while keeping Pensacola off the scoreboard on all six of their power play opportunities.

Tyler MacKay earned the win in net for the Everblades to bring his record to 5-6-1, and Ford suffered the loss to fall to 12-3-1. The win improved Florida's record to 3-2-2 vs. Pensacola this season.

The Everblades return to action on Tuesday night, February 22 when they travel to Pensacola to take on the Ice Pilots at 8:05 p.m. The game is the first of a six-game, 11-day road trip for the Everblades. Florida returns to Germain Arena on Saturday, March 5 against Louisiana at 7:30 p.m.
