Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads lost its first home game of the season 4-1 to the expansion Victoria Salmon Kings before 4,026 at the Bank of America Centre Friday night. The game marked Victoria's first visit to Boise and the first meeting of the two teams during the regular season. The teams had their first look at each other during two preseason games that were played in British Columbia mid-October - Idaho won both games (Gm1: 7-2; Gm 2: 7-4).

The Steelheads tallied at 7:59 of the first period with Idaho applying pressure around Victoria's net. Finally, Scott Burt came up with the puck from Petr Suchanek and got it through traffic to give Idaho the lead. Idaho outshot Victoria 9-to-6 in the first frame.

Idaho held the lead until 14:53 of the second period when the Salmon Kings evened the score. Corey Smith got the puck from the right face off circle, and one-timed it at Steelhead goaltender Frank Doyle. Doyle was positioned to make the save, but Ryan Finnerty deflected it in, stick side.

Finnerty gave Victoria the lead midway through the third period, when he came in tight on Doyle from behind the net. He tried to tap it in twice, but Doyle made the stops. The third try was a charm as he capitalized to give the Salmon Kings a one-goal lead. Victoria increased the margin to three goals with two goals from Robert Voltera. The first came at 17:35 and the final came on the empty net 21 seconds later.

Doyle, the Sun National Bank ECHL Saver of the Month for October, lost his first professional game and is now 4-1 on the season.
