
Royals Sign Souza

Reading, PA â The Reading Royals, affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and AHL's Manchester Monarchs, have announced that they have agreed to terms with right wing Mike Souza. Reading acquired Souza's rights from Fresno that completed a trade for defenseman Dominic Periard.
Souza, 26, began last season with the Florence of the ECHL. In 17 games with the Pride, Souza tallied eight goals and 21 points, along with 29 minutes in penalties. The Wakefield, Massachusetts native has spent the bulk of the season in the American Hockey League with Portland and Bridgeport. The fourth-year pro made appearances in 35 AHL contests in 2003-04 accounting for seven goals and 13 points with 27 penalty minutes. Last season, the University of New Hampshire graduate appeared in 64 games with Bridgeport and Norfolk. He posted 9 goals and 17 assists for 26 points and 96 penalty minutes. He also suited up for nine playoff games with the Sound Tigers tallying an assist and 12 penalty minutes. Souza spent his first two professional seasons with the AHL's Norfolk Admirals. He was a third round selection, 67th overall, of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.
The Reading Royals are entering their fourth season in Reading, Pennsylvania after relocating from Columbus, Ohio. The Royals enjoyed their first Kelly Cup playoff appearance last season, claiming the Northern Division Title and were one win away from qualifying for the Kelly Cup Finals. The Royals and the City of Reading are proud to be hosting the 13th annual ECHL All-Star Game and Skills Competition presented by Coors Light on January 25 and 26.
Reading returns home after a five-game road trip on Friday, November 12 against the Wheeling Nailers. Papa John's is handing out Royals magnetic schedules to the first 5,000 fans through the gates. Saturday, Reading hosts Dayton and Blue Ball National Bank is handing out Royals mini-CD calendar wallpaper to the first 1,500 fans. Plus, immediately following the game, a post-game party at the Outside In Restaurant and Bar on 6th and Penn Streets in downtown Reading. Both games face off at 7:05 p.m. at the Sovereign Center.
