Florida Everblades News Release
SAN DIEGO, CA â The Florida Everblades (3-3-0) suffered a 6-2 loss to the San Diego Gulls (4-2-1) on Thursday night at the San Diego Sports Arena.
The San Diego Gulls got off to a fast start scoring twice in the first three minutes of the contest with Guillaume Fournier starting things off just 1:01 into the game beating Everblades goaltender Craig Kowalski inside the left post. The Gulls opened a 2-0 advantage with a power play tally at 2:49 of the first period, before making a three-goal advantage at 11:22 of the opening frame on Scott Borders' first goal of the year. The Everblades found the back of the net at 14:17 of the period when David Lundbohm notched his first professional goal by jamming home a rebound past Gulls netminder Trevor Koenig.
Despite being out shot 17-8 in the second period, the Gulls increased their lead with another power play goal at 14:29 of the second period. The goal came when Nikita Korovkin picked up a lose puck off the side of the net and just pushed it across the goal line for the 4-1 lead. The goal led to Kowalski being pulled for Rob Zepp who stopped the only two shots he faced in the second period.
Florida cut the San Diego lead in half early in the third period when Matt Hendricks notched his first professional goal, with a power play goal at the 6:24 mark, but the Gulls tacked on two more goals before it was all said and done to open a 6-2 advantage. Mark Pederson extended the lead to 5-2 at 11:30 of the third period, before Mike Garrow closed out the scoring blasting a shot past Zepp with 6:53 remaining in the contest.
Kowalski suffered the loss for the Everblades, allowing four goals on eight shots in the 34:29 minutes played, while Zepp stopped 11 of 13 San Diego shots he faced. Koenig earned the win between the pipes for the Gulls stopping 44 of 46 Florida shots. The Everblades finished the night 1-for-7 on the power play, while the goals scored on two of their six power play chances.
Florida continues their six-game west coast swing on Friday, November 5 when the team travels to Long Beach, CA to take on the Long Beach Ice Dogs beginning at 10:30 p.m. EST.
