Steelheads fall in OT

Anchorage, AK- The Idaho Steelheads (1-1-1) fell 4-3 in overtime to the Alaska Aces (2-1-0) despite a pair of goals for Mark Derlago and 44 saves from rookie goaltender Tyler Beskorowany. Beskorowany's 44 saves are the most for a Steelhead since Kellen Briggs turned away 43 pucks on January 25, 2008 in Fresno.
Former Steelhead Scott Burt scored the first goal of the contest to give Alaska a 1-0 lead at 8:50 of the first period. Aces defenseman Chad Anderson carried a puck up the left wing and found Burt back-door for the goal. The goal came on the heels of an Aces power play. Alaska had four man-advantages in the opening period.
At 12:37 of the first period, Aces defenseman Bryan Miller pinched-in from the point and found a loose puck in the goal mouth area behind Steelheads goalie Tyler Beskorowany, who has started all three Steelheads games to this point. Miller pushed the puck over the goal line in the midst of a scramble to give Alaska a 2-0 lead after one period. Alaska outshot Idaho 18-5 in the first 20 minutes.
The lone goal of the second period went for the Steelheads after Cody Lampl held a puck in the offensive zone, and the defenseman whistled a wrist shot toward the net. The puck was tipped by forward John-Scott Dickson, and found the back of the net for Dickson's first of the season.
Mark Derlago tied the game at 2-2 for the Steelheads when he buried a puck from point-blank; his second of the year, assisted by Marty Flichel.
With just 1:23 remaining, Burt scored his second goal of the game, once again from the back-door behind Beskorowany.
After pulling Beskorowany in favor of the extra attacker, the Steelheads went back on the offensive, and Derlago was able to tie the game on another rebound goal; Mike Gabinet and Lampl gathered the assists on Derlago's third goal of the season.
In overtime, Steve Ward netted the game-winner as he followed his own rebound from the right faceoff circle.
Tyler Beskorowany stopped 44 of 48 shots in the loss; he is now 1-1-1. Gerald Coleman stopped 23 of 26 in the win; he is 2-1-0.
The Steelheads and Aces will do battle tomorrow night in Anchorage; the puck drops at 9:15 MST. Idaho returns home to take on Utah at Qwest Arena on Wednesday, October 27th.
