The Aces stormed out of the locker room and cruised through the first period, dominating play over the defending National Conference Champions. Alaska outshot Idaho 18-5 in the frame, and jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Scott Burt tapped a Chad Anderson set-up home at 8:20 for his first of the season. The Aces then broke through on the power play as Wes Goldie scored from behind the goal line, reaching around to poke the puck past Tyler Beskorowany at 12:37. The Aces took a 2-0 lead into the intermission.

The lone goal of the second came when John-Scott Dickson redirected a floating shot from the blue line past Gerald Coleman at 4:09 to get Idaho on the board. The Aces retained a 2-1 lead through the rest of the frame, and outshot the Steelheads 14-8 in the period.

The third period opened and closed in dramatic fashion. Just 18 seconds into the frame, the Aces fumbled the puck inside their own zone and turned it over to Idaho, who found leading scorer Mark Derlago at the right corner of the crease to tap home the game-tying goal. It remained 2-2 for much of the frame, until Burt scored his second of the night to reclaim the lead for Alaska late in the period. Burt redirected a Jerad Stewart shot into the net at 18:37 to make it 3-2 Alaska. However, Idaho responded, pulling their netminder and finding the equalizer in the final minute. Derlago tallied his second of the game on a rebound with 28.5 seconds remaining to force overtime.

In the extra session, Ward carried the puck into the offensive zone, sent a shot that bounced in and out of Beskorowany's glove, and then chipped in his own rebound to send the crowd of more than 4,463 into a frenzy.

Gerald Coleman (2-1) earned the win, making 23 saves on 26 shots, and Tyler Beskorowany (1-1-1) took the overtime loss, with 44 saves on 48 shots. The Aces power play went 1-9, while the Steelheads went 0-2. Alaska outshot Idaho 48-26 in the game.

The Aces return to the Sullivan Arena on Saturday night to host Idaho in a rematch at 7:15pm. The team will wear tie-dye jerseys that will be auctioned off to fans at the game. For more information, please call the Aces at 907.258.ACES or visit them online at www.alaskaaces.com.
