Wranglers Fall to Salmon Kings in Home Opener

Las Vegas, NV- In the first home game of the 2010-11 season the Las Vegas Wranglers® fell to the Victoria Salmon Kings by a final score of 3-1. Salmon Kings captain, Peter Vandermeer, scored the game winning goal at the 7:06 mark of the second period. Milan Gajic opened the scoring at the 11:22 mark of the first period and Matt Siddall ended it with an empty net goal late in the third. The only goal for the Wranglers came on the power play at the 17:25 mark of second period from Ned Lukacevic. Victoria goaltender Gill Riley made 25 saves in the win and Wranglers netminder Joe Fallon stopped 29 of 31 in the loss.

The first period got underway with a deflection goal by Milan Gajic assisted from Taylor Ellington and Kiel McLeod. The Wranglers answered back with a power play goal from Ned Lukacevic on a set play with assists going to Craig Switzer and Barry Goers. Both teams went to the locker room tied at the conclusion of the first period.

The second period saw only one goal, which turned out to be the game-winner, in the form of a slap shot from Peter Vandermeer assisted by Matt Siddall. The Wranglers managed only eight shots in the period as they headed into the third period trailing 2-1.

In the third period the Salmon Kings notched the final goal of the game, an empty net wrist shot from Matt Siddall with assists going to Rob Hennigar and Ryan Turek. Once again the Wranglers could not put the puck on net, taking four shots in the final period.

The Wranglers host the Salmon Kings again tomorrow night at the Orleans Arena. The puck drops at 7:05 pm.
