Kalamazoo Wings News Release
A night after starting the 2010-11 season on the road, the Kalamazoo Wings return to Wings Stadium to battle the Cincinnati Cyclones. Besides being the season opener, tonight's game is also the 7th Annual Orange Ice Game, presented by WWMT and WZUU.
Receiving points from 11 players, the K-Wings cruised to a 7-2 victory last night against the Toledo Walleye at the Huntington Center. Kalamazoo's special teams dominated last night, scoring three power-play goals and a shorthander from Jon Landry, which proved to be the game-winner.
After six days off, the Cyclones are prepared to continue their five-game road swing, with the third contest of the trip. Cincinnati started the season splitting a pair of games last weekend at the First Arena against the Elmira Jackals.
Trick-or-Treat
The K-Wings will host the Cincinnati Cyclones tonight during the 7th Annual Orange Ice Game. All-time, the K-Wings are 1-5-0-0 on the pumpkin colored ice.
Nie Reaches the Century Mark
Goaltender Ryan Nie reached a personal milestone with last night's 7-2 victory. The win was the 100th in Nie's career.
Another Milestone for Karlander
Last night, forward Kory Karlander became the first player to represent the K-Wings in every league Kalamazoo has been a member of and he became the first player to dress for the K-Wings in three different decades (90's, 00's, 10's). Tonight, Karlander will reach another milestone, as this evening will be his 900th career game.
Getting Everyone Involved
Last night's victory over Toledo was truly a team effort for Kalamazoo. Eleven different players earned at least one point in the K-Wings 7-2 victory.
