Victoria downs Las Vegas in series opener for 3-1 road victory

Las Vegas, NV - In a Friday night matchup at the Orleans Arena, the Victoria Salmon Kings took on the Las Vegas Wranglers in the first of a two-game set. The Salmon Kings gave Riley Gill the start in net, while the Wranglers called on Joe Fallon.

Victoria opened the scoring at 8:38 of the first period when Milan Gajic deflected Taylor Ellington's point shot past Fallon. Las Vegas replied at 17:25 when Ned Lukacevic fired a one-timer from the high slot past Gill on a five-on-three power play. After one period of play the score was tied 1-1.

The Salmon Kings regained the lead at the 7:06 mark of the middle frame when captain Pete Vandermeer picked up a puck left by Matt Siddall at the top of the left faceoff circle and beat the Wranglers' goaltender over his glove into the net. Victoria took their 2-1 lead into the second intermission.

Gill and the Salmon Kings' defence highlighted the third period, keeping the Wranglers at bay before Matt Siddall put the game out of reach with an empty net marker at the18:50 mark. Salmon Kings 3 Wranglers 1.

Victoria went 0/4=00.0% on the power play, while Las Vegas was 1/6=16.6%. The Salmon Kings outshot the Wranglers 32-26.
