Brampton Steelheads News Release

After a strong push in the final frame, the Steelheads drop one to the Barrie Colts.

First Period

It was the Steelheads' first game back at home with 50% capacity, and they were looking to make a splash against the Barrie Colts. The Colts got on the board early after a bad bounce for the Trout, giving Anthony Tabak his 13th goal of the season at the 1:02 mark.

Later in the frame, the Steelheads were scrambling in front of the Colts' net, and Max Dodig was able to take the puck from behind netminder Matt Guzda to even the score at one apiece. After a lengthy review, the goal was deemed a good goal, and Dodig officially earned his fourth goal of the season. Charlie Callaghan and Owen Beck were credited with the assists.

After lots of back and forth, Barrie made the next dent in the scoreboard with 2:41 remaining. Oliver Smith ripped a wicked shot on net, which beat Joe Ranger up high on the blocker side. While the Steelheads outshot the Colts in the first period, the score remained 2-1 in favour of Barrie after 20 minutes.

Second Period

The Steelheads came out firing to start the second, setting up several good chances in the first ninety seconds of the period. The two teams continued their back and forth play, as Ranger and Guzda both made key saves throughout the frame.

Midway through the period, it looked as though the Colts were able to extend their lead. After the play was reviewed, though, the goal was called back. However, the Colts broke through once again just as a penalty to Jake Uberti expired. At the 14:52 mark, Barrie's Ian Lemieux shot the puck over the glove of Ranger to make it a 3-1 game.

Shots: 12 BAR/10 MISS

Third Period

Entering the third with a goal deficit, the Steelheads pushed hard to even the score. Getting shot after shot, the boys in blue tried to put one past Guzda, but could not solve the Barrie netminder. Late in the game, Uberti made a great play to deke out Artur Cholach, but Guzda was there to shut the door.

In the last 70 seconds of the frame, the Steelheads took a two-man advantage as they went on a power play and pulled Ranger from the net. The Trout had several opportunities but could not get one into the back of the net in the end. The score remained at 3-1 for the Colts after 60 minutes of play.

Shots: 4 BAR/14 MISS
