Kitchener Rangers News Release
The Kitchener Rangers headed on the road to face The Sarnia Sting for the second time this week. We were looking to bounce back from a shootout loss against the Sting on Tuesday night.
Two minutes into the game, Sarnia's Nolan Burke opened the scoring to give them an early 1-0 lead. Ty Hollett took a hooking penalty just past the midway point of the period, which led to a Sarnia goal, extending their lead to 2-0. Joseph Serpa would also take a penalty later in the game, but the Rangers had a strong penalty kill. We looked to apply more pressure in the 2nd and find the scoresheet.
The 2nd period started much better for the Rangers, as Carson Rehkopf got the team on the board, making it 2-1. The Rangers pressured the Sting defence but could not capitalize on their chances. Their hard work earned them a powerplay with nine minutes left in the period. Justin Nolet scored on a beautiful shot from the point, tying the game 2-2. Just over a minute later, Sarnia would regain the lead, 3-2. The Rangers responded as Joseph Serpa snuck one past Sarnia's Benjamin Gaudreau to tie the game 3-3. After a much better period, we looked to grab the lead for the first time in the 3rd.
To start the final period, the Rangers pressed Sarnia hard, having a flurry of chances early on. Despite carrying most of the play in the 3rd, Sarnia got lucky on a play that gave them a 4-3 lead. Sarnia capitalized on a powerplay, extending their lead to 5-3. Pavel Cajan was pulled for the extra attacker with around four minutes left in the game. Sarnia scored on the empty net, making it 6-3 and securing the win.
Despite outshooting the Sting 33-23, we could not come up with the win in this one. We look to bounce back in London on Monday, February 21st at 2:00 p.m.
